William Canton (27 October 1845 – 2 May 1926) was a British poet, journalist and writer, now best known for his contributions to children's literature. In his lifetime Canton was known for his use of recent archeological evidence of prehistory in his poetry.

Charles Robinson (1870–1937) was a prolific British book illustrator, known for his Art Nouveau style. The book contains many full page line drawings, including numerous head and tail pieces. Title page and frontispiece in full colour.

The book measures 14cm x 19.5cm, 3cm thick.

CONDITION:

Please view all listing photographs for the best understanding of condition. There are clear signs of age, use and wear. Publishers blue cloth binding rubbed, marked and shelf worn. Boards corners bumped and worn. Both ends of spine worn and frayed. Gilt title and decoration to upper board, bright but a little rubbed. Gilt title and decoration on spine dulled and faded. Page edges gilded, bright but scratched and dulled in parts. Spine cocked with a forward lean. Hinges/joints firm. Decorative end papers and paste downs yellowed and foxed. Ink inscription dated 1902 on front first end paper. Tissue guarded colour illustrated frontispiece. Text block age toned throughout, a few spots of foxing, creasing sporadic. Binding generally ok, no loose or missing pages, gutter cracked in a few places but holding.

Overall the book remains in acceptable reading condition. An interesting edition for collectors of Fairy Tales, wonderfully illustrated by the legendary Charles Robinson.
