Knapsack Bible. Diamond 32mo. Thin India paper.

Soldiers Issued Bible bound in Khaki Cloth with button flap. Printed c1914. Inscription of Lord Roberts message on the 25th August 1914. The message from Lord Roberts to the troops in 1914 is as follows:"I ask you to put your trust in God. He will watch over you and strengthen you. You will find in this little book guidance when you are in health, comfort when you are in sickness, and strength when you are in adversity."This message was inscribed on a Bible and was given to British troops before they went to war, providing them with comfort and hope during their service.

The book measures 7cm x 12cm.

CONDITION:

Olive green kaki cloth binding in good condition, very lightly marked from handling. Button flap fastening designed to protect the contents while stored in pocket or "Knapsack" bag. Button flap snaps well to front board. Gilt title on spine and Union Jack flag on front board, gilt a little rubbed but generally good. Hinges/joints good, strong with no splitting. Underside of button flap paper paste down slightly torn from repeated use, remains functional. Text block good, firm and complete. Pages generally bright with only minor toning/foxing of end papers and paste downs. Full page inscription opposite title page in black ink. No further inscriptions, underlining, highlighting or notes. One red ribbon page marker in good condition. Page edges coloured red, still bright with very slight fading. Original cardboard box remains functional but clearly worn, marked, with label on front edge, barely legible. 

Overall the book remains in good reading condition, lightly used. Protected well in its box. A collectible British Army issued Holy Bible, printed c1900.
