Gilt title and lined raised bands a little faded. Joints holding well, strong with no splitting. White metal decorated edging in good condition, possibly silver but no hallmarks present. Some discolouration or patina of the metal in parts. Slight soiling/dirt running along where the edging is pinned to the boards. All original blue stones present except one on the clasp. Edging all firmly pinned to the boards and joined securely together with the clasp. Lacking original pin in the clasp hinge, replaced by the previous owner with metal wire bent through hinge and secured. Hinge in good working order. Gilt gaufferered page edges in good condition, attractive design, slightly faded/scuffed.
Textured white end papers and paste downs, a little grubby and marked. Hinges holding well, rear board has a very small gutter split starting. Text block age toned, yellowing throughout. Some foxing on the first and last few pages. Contents is complete, no loose or missing pages. No previous owner inscriptions, highlighting or notes. Generally in good reading condition. No ribbon page markers, appear removed as two stubby remains jut from the head band.
Overall the book remains of nice collectible interest, in good reading condition. The signs of age and use can be expected for a book over 170 years old. The uncommon cover design makes this an interesting piece.
