The book measures 10.5cm x 16cm.

CONDITION:

This set comes in its original cardboard box. The red exterior with gold edging has discoloured with age, some noticeable marks and scuffs, the rear is particularly sunned. The bottom has a small surface torn section, this does not affect the structure and is surface level only. The box remains in solid functional condition and has protected the books within very well. The top lid opens with strong hinge and red ribbon support. A gilt Eyre & Spottiswoode Royal Seal emblem is attractively stamped central to the gold underside of the lid. The front flap of the box has been designed to open out flat when the lid is lifted. This reveals a soft black velvet lining, with the smaller Book of Common Prayer housed at the bottom, cushioned either side with velvet blocks. The "Shelf" above is hinged, allowing for better access to the Common Prayer. The Holy Bible sits perfectly on this upper shelf. Both books sit very comfortably within the box, very well produced and has protected the books wonderfully.

Both books are in remarkable condition for their age, hardly touched at all. These are estimated to have been produced prior to 1970, as Eyre & Spottiswoode ceased trading as a separate entity in the 1970's. Both books are identically bound in a deep red Morocco (Goatskin) leather, with rose gold gilded titles to the spines. The covers are in excellent condition, no signs of wear or markings. Both books have generous yapp edges, helping to protect the contents. The inside covers are leather lined with matching red flyleaf. The outer edges are edge lined with two gilt lines. The text blocks are Nylon sewn. The page edges are red coloured under gold gilt. The gilt remain nice and bright, with just a couple of light marks from handling, the red under gilt really brings the block and the binding together. There are two red ribbon page markers in the Bible, and four in the Common Prayer, all remain in excellent condition. The text blocks are clean and bright, with no previous owner inscriptions, notes or highlighting. The thicker card stock blank end papers at both front and rear of the books have developed some age related foxing, not uncommon in early vintage and antiquarian books. 

Overall these books appear near new, little used, if at all by the previous owner. The box has done remarkably well to protect the books. A scarce find in such wonderful condition, and in such high quality binding. Despite the very good condition there is still some of the minor signs of age and use as described,  which should be expected.
