This Edition of The Vita Nuova or New Life of Dante Alighieri, with decorated borders by Christopher Dean, was printed at the Chiswick Press and is published by George Bell and Sons, York Street, Covent Garden, MDCCCCII.
CONDITION:
There are signs of age, use and wear. Vellum spine discoloured with age, gilt title, shelf wear at head and tail. Paper covered boards, discoloured and foxed. Corners well worn, shelf wear along the boards edges. Front board has a gilt title, and olive green floral design. Gilt still bright and design remains clear despite general paper discolouration. Joints strong, no spliting. Paste downs and end papers age toned and foxed. Bookseller sticker bottom edge of rear paste down. Hinges strong, no splitting.
General age toning of the text block, all text legible, sporadic mild foxing throughout. Table of contents, and Index of first line of Sonnets at the rear. Top edge gilt, dulled and scratched, other edges untrimmed. No previous owner inscriptions, highlighting or notes.
Overall the book remains in good reading condition. Some clear signs of wear, however holding together well, a scarce edition.
The book measures 13.5cm x 16.5cm, 1.5cm thick.
