Robert Dodsley (13 February 1703 – 23 September 1764) was an English bookseller, publisher, poet, playwright, and miscellaneous writer. He changed Aesop's Fables into moral tales for English readers, including tales by himself and friends, hence title including "Other Fabulists."

Fables 1 to 52 across three books (one volume). Includes 70 pages on the life of Esop. With Index. Each fable is illustrated as part of around 12 small captioned images per full page engraved plate, dotted throughout. Includes illustrated frontispiece. Many engravings by Charles Grignion, a prolific historical engraver and book illustrator.

The book measures 11cm x 17.5cm, 3cm thick.

CONDITION:
Please view all listing photographs for the best understanding of condition. The binding is in a worn state. Brown leather boards worn, marked, chipped and discoloured. Edges and boards corners very worn. Historic spine repair made, itself also now very worn. Spine much darker in appearance to the boards. Hinges/joints holding firm. Previous owner inscription on front pastedown plus a few ink lines and ink splashes in parts. End pages and paste downs worn, creased, marked and some tears along margins. Hinge cracked at title page and rear end page, however holding well. Text block generally tight, no loose or missing pages. Age toned throughout, mild foxing dotted about. Page edges jut out in parts, evidence of red coloured edges now well faded. 

Overall the book remains in acceptable reading condition. Clearly showing its age, well worn, but a charming edition with wonderful Fables and Engravings.
