PRINTER'S NOTE.
This is the third book printed at the Essex House Press, which was founded by Laurence Hodson and C. R. Ashbee, in the hope to keep living the traditions of good printing that William Morris had revived, and with the help of T. Binning and J. Tippett, compositors, and S. Mowlem, pressman, who came from the Kelmscott Press to that end.
The first book from the Press was The Treatises of Benvenuto Cellini on Metal WorkSculpture, translated from the Italian by C. R. Ashbee. The second book was The Hymn of Bardaisan, the first Christian poem, rendered into English verse from the original Syriac, by F. Crawford Burkitt, of Trinity College, Cambridge.

CONDITION.
Original stiff vellum, spine lettered in black, title a little faded.Yapp fore edges with some small chipped loss of corners. Vellum lightly soiled, faint water stain on bottom left of rear cover. Joints holding well with no splitting.
Mild foxing of end papers and pastedowns. Faint pencil booksellers note on top edge of ffep. Contents a little age toned, generally in good bright condition. No further inscriptions, highlighting or notes. Page edges untrimmed, top edge less so. Contents complete with no loose or missing pages. Binding solid overall.
Overall a lovely little scarce edition. Showing usual signs of age, generally in good reading condition.
The book measures 12cm x 15.5cm.
