CONDITION:
The book measures 10.5cm x 15.5cm, 2cm thick.
The limp Vellum binding is discoloured with age, some light marks and surface scratches noticeable. The rear cover has a blue mark stain, 4 small blue dots grouped together. Bright gilt decoration and title on front board and spine. The fore edge of both boards over hang with yapp edge, remnants of red ribbon on both edges, ribbon itself no longer present. The absence of the ribbon tie has resulted in the vellum warping outwards, a result of the book being opened in use and holding the outwards shape. The tie would have prevented this to some extent, however vellum is well known to distort in changing temperatures. Perhaps a two ties equally spaced out would have been a better idea...Please see all photographs for the best understanding. It's not really much of an issue when in use, and when stored upright in a bookcase it wouldn't be noticeable. Only when laying the book down does the front cover pop up.
The paper paste downs a little yellowed, front has partial remains of a small sticker at the top left corner. The first blank end paper has been removed, small scrap left visible in the gutter. Half title page has 'The Lyric Poets' 'Robert Burns'. The text block is generally clean, bright and complete. Slight page toning, occassional light spot of foxing. All text completely legible. No previous owner notes or inscriptions. Top edge gilt, a little dulled and scratched. Other edges rough cut. Includes Introduction following the contents, and Glossary at the rear.
Overall the book remains in good reading condition. Very attractive gilt decoration on vellum binding. Warping of the cover and missing ribbon tie a little unfortunate, but a nice and scarce copy nonetheless.
